Is Therapy Right for Me?

What are the benefits of going to therapy?

Therapy offers more than just a place to talk—it’s a space to grow. You may gain clarity, strengthen relationships, improve coping skills, and discover new ways of navigating challenges. Whether you're working through something specific or simply want to feel more like yourself again, therapy supports real, lasting change.

How do I know if I need therapy?

If you’ve ever felt stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of your next step—therapy can help. You don’t have to wait for a crisis. Many people come to counseling simply because they’re ready to feel better, understand themselves more deeply, or make intentional changes in their lives.

What brings people to therapy?

Life transitions, anxiety, grief, trauma, relationship struggles, low self-esteem, parenting challenges—there’s no one reason to start. Some clients come in for a short-term goal; others stay longer to unpack patterns or past experiences. If something’s weighing on you, we’re here to help carry it.

What to Expect in Therapy

What is a therapy session like?

Every session is shaped around you. Typically, you’ll talk with your therapist about what’s going on in your life, reflect on patterns or emotions, and work toward goals you’ve set together. You might meet weekly, bi-weekly, or adjust as needed over time.

Will I have “homework” or things to do between sessions?

Sometimes! Your therapist may suggest journaling, reflection, or small action steps to help you carry what you’ve explored in session into your daily life. Everything is tailored to your pace and comfort level.

What’s the difference between therapy and medication?

Medication can help manage symptoms—but therapy gets to the root. While some clients benefit from both, therapy provides tools, insight, and long-term support to help you make lasting change. We’ll support you in finding the best approach for you.

Insurance + Payment

Do you take insurance?

Yes—we accept a range of insurance plans. You’ll find more details on our Insurance + Rates page.

How do I know what my insurance will cover?

We recommend calling your insurance provider directly and asking about your mental health benefits. If you’re not sure where to start, we’ll guide you through the questions to ask.

What if my insurance isn’t accepted?

We offer a private pay rate for clients who are out of network or choose not to use insurance. Reach out to our office for current rates and options.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask for at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Missed appointments without notice will be billed a $95 no-show fee.

Your Privacy + Confidentiality

Will my sessions be kept confidential?

Absolutely. What you share in therapy stays in therapy—except in a few rare situations required by law (like risk of harm or suspected abuse). We’ll always walk you through these exceptions upfront and answer any questions you have.

Can my therapist share information with someone else, like a doctor or partner?

Only with your written permission. If you ever want your therapist to coordinate with someone on your care team, you’ll be asked to sign a release of information form.
